High
in the Sierra Madre Mountains long ago, the Mixteco People of the Ixtayutla
Region moved their village from one side of the valley to the other side.
It is said that they moved because there were large birds that came down from
the sky and ate their children. Their priests told them they would be
safe from the birds on the other side of the valley. The town they left
behind is called Pueblo Viejo (Old Town)
Over
20 villages are now spread through out that valley and surrounding region
and the birds are no longer a problem. Lack of rain and deforestation
problems have made this once temporate region into a dry wasteland.
Spiritual bondage has kept many tied to traditional fears and practices that
hinder the community from growing or finding outside assistance.
Within the last year, land was donated in Pueblo Viejo and the first Evangelical church was constructed out of bricks made by hand from the nearby earth. Praise God with us and people of Pueblo Viejo as they begin to meet in their newly finished church building.
